Frances E. (Scerra) Sciascia, Rana, 92, of Worcester passed away Saturday, June 18th 2011 in the Beaumont at University Commons in the presence of her family. Frances was born in Worcester, October 22, 1918, a daughter of Antonio and Giroloma (Calogero) Scerra. She graduated from Worcester Girls Trade and lived in Worcester, moving to Hollywood Florida in 1972 after retirement and returning back to Worcester in 2001. Frances first husband, Phillip Sciascia passed away in 1979. Her second husband Anthony Rana passed away in 1993. She is survived by her loving and devoted caregivers and nieces, Florence Murgo and Catherine Danzillio, who made the last 10 years of her life, pleasant, dignified and comfortable. Frances is also survived by her son, Phillip Sciascia, Jr. and his wife Patricia; a step daughter, Janice Cuthbertson , three grandchildren, Gina Trafecante, Michael and Phillip Sciascia, III; six great grandchildren, Anthony, Carissa, Brianna and Marlena Trafecante, Nicholas and Kaylie Sciascia; Many other nieces, nephews, and extended family. Four brothers, Fred, Joseph, Phillip and Dominick Scerra and two sisters, Nancy Valarioti and Mary Dusousi all pre deceased her. Frances employed years consisted of many jobs, She began her career as a seamstress for comfort product and working for family at the Dark Brook Restaurant in Auburn; She then co owned with her husband Town Taxi in Worcester and Auburn and AA- Rana limousine Services before retiring in the Worcester area to Florida where her expertise as a seamstress lead her to make custom cloths for celebrities. Frances was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, and the Maria Gabriella Lodge #168 Order Sons of Italy. Frances funeral will be held Thursday, June 23rd 2011 at 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours from 9:30 to 11:00 prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Team of Beaumont Care Center, 378 Plantation St. Frances caregivers Florence and Catherine would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses on the Tapestry Neighborhood and Salmon Health and hospice for the wonderful care and compassion given to Frances.
