Hugo R D'Alessandro

November 13, 1931 — May 15, 2011

Hugo R. D'Alessandro, 79, of Shrewsbury and St. Augustine, FL, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011, in his home in Shrewsbury, surrounded by his loving family. Hugo is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Rosemarie (Groccia) D'Alessandro; four sons, Daniel A. D'Alessandro and his wife Annie of Derry, NH, David J. D'Alessandro and his wife Cynthia of Shrewsbury, John M. D'Alessandro and his wife Debra of Worcester and James H. D'Alessandro and his wife Christine of Shrewsbury; a brother, Guido D'Alessandro of Saint Augustine, FL; thirteen grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Caitlin, Angela, Susan, Olivia, Michelle, Alex, Samantha, Gianna, Isabella, Julia and Jennifer; many nieces and nephews. Hugo was born in Worcester, son of Fausto and Anna (Merola) D'Alessandro and has lived most of his life in Shrewsbury. Hugo was a dedicated son, a devoted brother, a loving husband, a caring grandfather, an immeasurable and hardworking father. His integrity, strong character and friendly demeanor made him an easy man to call a friend. He lived by the values taught by his parents, hard work and family comes first. He developed a keen business mind while working with his parents in their family business Worcester Poultry Market. Subsequently he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and upon his return attended the New School of Accounting. In 1954 he married his beautiful soul mate Rosemarie, started their family on Bailey Road and in 1957 earned the title that would define him. He became a Massachusetts State Trooper and served proudly for 13 years until he retired in 1970. After retiring from the State Police he started a detective agency called Alltrac International with his brother Guido. They later founded an Armored Car company called Mass Transport, Inc. The brothers worked as one, their synergy in business was a true experience to witness. With their 23 years of leadership and the help of family, friends and loyal employees the business grew to service all of New England. In 1997 Hugo retired and all his time was devoted to his wife and family. He loved to travel cross country in his motor home with country music and a cup of coffee at the wheel. In true retiree fashion he spent many months at his condo in St. Augustine Florida making many new friends while overlooking the ocean. Hugo was a jack of all trades and rarely relied on others to build or repair anything around the house. He amazed his family for he always had the right tool or part somewhere in his cellar. Hugo was always available to help his family and friends in need, even as his illness began to affect him. Hugo enjoyed cooking his macaroni gravy on a Sunday morning while Rosemarie made her meatballs. The family would awake to the wonderful smell while the neighborhood woke to the Italian music. His family remained very close spending all cherished holidays and Sunday's together with the Patriots and pasta. Upon his passing one of the saddest faces in the house was his loving little dog Maxine. She would often sit on his lap for hours and you could tell by her eyes she was lost without him. He was a member of Saint Anne's Church and Former Mass State Police Association. His belief in God was pure and his love for family was never ending. He would often admit that he was not always right, but he was never wrong. The commanding presence of Hugo aka Baba will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him.
