Santo M. Lanava, 68, of Worcester, died peacefully Saturday May 7, 2011 surrounded by his loving family, in the Radius Healthcare Center. Santo is survived by his brother Michael Lanava and his wife Catherine of Worcester, a nephew Michael S. Lanava, and a niece Caryn Picard, his companion Kathy Smith, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Santo was born in Worcester son of the late Michael S. and Carmella (Bonofilio) Lanava and has lived here most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Johns High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Holy Cross College. He also was a graduate of the prestigious Dupont School of Investments. Santo served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant during the Vietnam War, and received the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and also the National Defense Medal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Santo was the Founder and President of Ironside Industries Inc. holder of Several Patents that he created. He also founded several Restaurants in Maryland and Massachusetts and received numerous awards from the Hospitality Industry. He was a proud Eagle Scout and served many years in Troop 70.He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church. Santo loved watching sports especially the Red Sox, most of all being with his family. He will truly be missed by his family and friends. Santo's funeral will be held Tuesday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady of Loreto Church 33 Massasoit Rd. A Calling hour will be held Tuesday morning only from 8:30AM to 9:30 AM prior to leaving for Church. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery.
