Ruth H. (Mongeon) deSourdis, 86 of Shrewsbury, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2011 in Autumn Village Nursing Home with her devoted family by her side. Ruth is survived by her husband of fifty three years, George K. deSourdis; two sons, Walter Goodrich and his wife Kaye of Huntsville, AL and Jason deSourdis of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Donna Barton and her husband Richard of Mount Dora, FL; four grandchildren, Joshua and Sara Goodrich, Rachel and Scott Barton; two great grandchildren, Emily and Brooke Goodrich. She is predeceased by a brother, Richard Mongeon. Ruth was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Arthur and Emmogene (Claflin) Mongeon. She graduated from Commerce High School. She later moved to Shrewsbury and has been there for forty-three years. Ruth worked as an office worker for Learner's Clothing and at New England Offset Printing. Upon the birth of her children she later became a homemaker. Ruth was a member of the former Fairlawn Methodist Church in Shrewsbury. She also served on the Board of the Shrewsbury Housing Authority. She was a Founding Member of The Circuit Riders, a group which brought religious, services to local nursing homes and senior's organizations. And, she loved to do needle work including crocheting and knitting. Services for Ruth will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with the service starting at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 10th from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army.
