Luba N Trachimowicz

August 25, 1921 — April 15, 2011

WORCESTER - God saw that the road was getting rough. The hills were hard to climb. He gently closed her weary eyes and whispered, "Peace Be Thine." Luba "Lou" Repekta Trachimowicz, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, with her loving family at her bedside. Luba was the beloved wife of Joseph Trachimowicz whom she leaves to mourn her. Lou and Joe were married on August 14, 1943 and have enjoyed 68 years of life together. Born on August 25, 1921, Luba was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Natalie (Smorshok) Repekta. Lou was predeceased by her brother Alexander, who died in 1922, and her sister, Sonia Parent, who died in 2011. Luba lived her entire long and happy life in Worcester, Massachusetts. She graduated from the former Commerce High School in 1938 and from Becker Junior College in 1941. During her 13 years of grade school, junior high school and high school, Lou was never absent, late or excused from class, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. From 1940 to 1946, Luba was employed by the American Steel and Wire Company where she was given the opportunity to work on The Manhattan Project. In 1963, she was appointed as a Police Matron by the City of Worcester, a position she held until her retirement in 1985. Luba had a saying that she repeated many, many times during her lifetime, "My children are my wealth and The Lord sent me riches beyond compare." She was so very proud of her two devoted and thoughtful sons, Robert and Richard, her two "special daughters," Patricia, wife of Robert, and Dianne, wife of Richard, her five caring grandchildren, grandsons Timothy, and his wife Dr Gina Trachimowicz, Matthew, and his wife Abbey Trachimowicz and Nathan Trachimowicz, children of Robert and Patricia, Chris Trachimowicz and her one and only granddaughter, Kate, children of Richard and Dianne, and two great grandchildren, Andrew and Joshua, sons of Tim and Gina. Luba and Joseph attended virtually all of the sporting events of her sons and grandchildren and encouraged them that winning was not always as important as being a "good sport" and worthy competitor. Lou had many close friends and was a good friend to all. The words, "No, I can't." were not in her vocabulary. She spent many happy days with her friends on bus trips, dining out and days spent doing crafts and just talking. Luba's hobbies included tending to her flower gardens, reading, strolling through flea markets, bidding at antique auctions, cooking and baking. Her entire family especially enjoyed her blueberry pies and her Polish Easter breads with their prune and apricot fillings. For ten years, Lou volunteered her services to Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society in their RSVP Reading Program. She was a member of the Millbury Women's Club and the DAV Auxiliary #4. Luba was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday, April 18th 2011 from 6 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her celebration of life will be held Tuesday April 19th from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center on Plantation Street in Worcester. For the extraordinary care and love given to Luba during her stay at Notre Dame, the Trachimowicz Family extends a special note of gratitude to the entire South Wing Staff, including the Doctors, RNs, LPNs, Social Workers, Therapists, Aides, Hospice Nurses and the Sisters of Notre Dame, whose prayers always brought us comfort and inspiration.
