Nancy J. (Walker) Nelson, 68, of Worcester, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at UMass Hospital. Nancy is survived by three daughters, Sandra Volent of Worcester; Doreen McDonnell and her husband Patrick of Frisco, TX and Debra S. Ware and her husband Thomas of Sterling; her mother, Dorothy T. (Hackett) Walker of Worcester; a sister, Claudia R. Bullock of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Robert, Michael, Christopher and Jessica Volent, Amanda and Bailey McDonnell, Jamie and Thomas Ware II; nieces and nephews. Nancy was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Richard Walker and has lived here all her life. Nancy was secretary to the president of Rice Barton Company for many years, before she retired. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. Following her retirement, she became active in her community at Colony Retirement Homes and was the "self-appointed" activities director; organizing movie nights, card games and Sunday morning church services. Calling hours for Nancy will be held on Friday, March 25, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester; followed by her Funeral Service at 2 p.m. in All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
