Nancy E. Phillips, PhD., 59, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Her husband, David P. Carter, predeceased her in August 2010. Nancy was born in Napa, California, daughter of the late, Lawrence E. Phillips. Nancy met her husband at the University of California Berkley in 1973. Nancy and David joined their lives together in 1974. They enjoyed many years of backpacking, cycling and canoeing together. They enjoyed making home-made beer and wine and were founding members of the Gambrinus Society, a local home brew club. They were volunteers in the early days of recycling in Shrewsbury. Nancy was a member of the Mass Audubon Society. Nancy received her PhD in Zoology from the University of California Berkley and did a residency program at Jewish Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She worked for many years as a researcher in the UMass Diabetes Lab. Nance is survived by her mother, Dorothy R. (Hargrave) Phillips of Victorville, California; her brother, Mark Phillips and his wife Sonya of Apple Valley, California and their children, Megan and Melissa. She was predeceased by her sister, Linda Phillips-Baker in 1978. No services will be held. Please remember Nancy in your own way.
