Ronald B. Fortin, 75, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, March 9th 2011 in his home surrounded by family after a brief illness. Ronald was born here in Worcester on July 14th 1935. He was a son of the late Jules F.X. and Rose B. (Reed) Fortin. He graduated from Assumption High School and attended Assumption College and has lived here all his life. Ron is survived by his devoted wife and partner of 53 years, Norma (Bouley) Fortin. His three cherished children, Joseph R. Fortin and his wife Diana of Burkburnett Texas, Thomas P. Fortin and his wife Susan of Lake Elsinore, California, Elizabeth F. Willson of Portage Michigan; he also leaves his three brothers, Rev. Robert J. Fortin A.A. of Worcester, Rev Richard A. Fortin, Pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Millbury, and his twin brother Roger R. Fortin of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Angela, Daniel, Sarah, James, Jessica, Alyssa, Timothy and Graydon, and many nieces, nephews and friends. A son, James E. Fortin passed away in 1960. A daughter, Patricia M. Fortin passed away in 1962 Ron worked as a driver/clerk for Komtek Corporation of Worcester over 10 years before retiring in 1996. He previously worked over 30 years for the Iandoli Supermarkets. Ronald was an active devoted member of Holy Family Parish, St Joseph Church in Worcester. He served the church as Parish Council member and Past Chairman, Lector, Extraordinary Minister for Communion, and member of the church St Vincent de Paul Society. He was a charter member of the Pernet Family Health Service. He also founded the church Neighbor Helping Neighbor Committee. Ron was also instrumental and gained national attention in the movement by the parishioners to keep St Joseph open in 1992, when the Diocese of Worcester attempted to close it. He was a handyman who could fix almost anything. Ron and his brother Roger formed an informal company fixing anything and helping anybody who needed them. They would even travel outside the Massachusetts Area many times when needed. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, March 13th from 3 pm to 6 pm in St Joseph Church, 35 Hamilton St. A funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10:00 am in the Church, His brothers Richard and Robert will be principal celebrants. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Neighbor Helping Neighbor fund, care of Holy Family Parish, 5 Whitman Rd Worcester 01609.
