Rocco A. "Rocky" DeProspo, 87, of Worcester, passed away Monday, February 28th in his home after a period of declining health with his family by his side. Rocco was a leap year baby born on February 29th 1924 in Worcester His parents were the late Domenic DeProspo, Sr. and Theresa (Bruciano) DeProspo. He graduated from Worcester public schools served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and has lived here all his life. Rocky is survived by his devoted wife and love of 65 years, Frances "Chic" (LaCanfora) DeProspo; two sons whom he cherished, Ronald "Ronnie" DeProspo and his wife Cheryl, Peter DeProspo and his wife Pamela all of Worcester; four grandchildren, Wendy, Jessica, Peter Rocco, and Nicholas; three great grandchildren, Gianni , Lola, and Lucca; a brother, Domenic DeProspo of Fishkill N.Y.; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother Francis DeProspo and two sisters, Camille DeProspo and Helen Magrino all pre deceased him. Rocco worked as an engineer and consultant over 25 years for Astra Pharmaceuticals before retiring in 1984. After retirement he worked with his sons and daughters in law another 15 years at City Sporting Goods in Worcester retiring once more at the age of 80. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. He enjoyed building World War II replica model planes and ships, and trips to Foxwoods and Atlantic City. Rocky was an accomplished musician, able to play the organ, accordion and violin. Most of all his family was his world. Spending time with them and on his deck swing watching his grandchildren play and being with his family were what inspired him. Rocco's funeral will be held Thursday, March 3rd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Entombment in Notre Dane Mausoleum will follow. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday March 2nd from 4 pm to 8 pm. In the funeral home.
