Roland J. Hopkins, 82, formerly of 36 N. Quinsigamond Ave passed away Saturday February 19th in the University of Massachusetts Hospital with his devoted daughters at his side. Roland was born May 14th 1928, in Leicester a son of Harris C. and Melvina (Bruso) Hopkins. He grew up in Leicester, lived in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury over 17 years ago. His wife of 28 years Alice (Lodi) Strozina, Hopkins passed away in 1999, a son in law Byron Remillard in 2002 and a grandson John Paul Remillard in 1991. He is survived by his former wife Catherine (Fairbanks) Hopkins of Shrewsbury; his two devoted daughters, Susan Remillard of Rochdale and Beverly Seavey and her husband Donald of Shrewsbury; two grandchildren John Seavey and Dawn Hunt; four great grandchildren, Luke, Tyler, Gabrielle and Nathan; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Roland last worked as a School Bus driver for over 5 years before retiring. He previously drove a bus for Peter Pan, worked at Reed & Prince Company and as a 30 year employee for U.S. Envelope Company. Roland was a sports enthusiast enjoying all New England Sports teams. He also collected Automobile Models Friends and relatives are invited to visit with their family Friday February 25th from 5 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A prayer service will follow at 7 PM. A graveside service in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn will be held Saturday February 26th at 11:00 am.
