James G. Porcaro, 88, Longtime resident of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 20, 2011 after a period of declining health with his family by his side. James wife of 48 years Veronica M. "Ronnie" (Roser) Porcaro passed away in December of 1997. He is survived by his children, James A. Porcaro Jr. and his wife Patricia of Shrewsbury, Robert J. Porcaro and his wife Marilyn of Gray Maine, Lynda M. McCart and her husband Mike of Worcester and Susan J. Colena and her husband Robert of Millbury, Donna Monsarrat in Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Alfred A. Porcaro of Worcester, and Gerald G. "Jerry" Porcaro of Shrewsbury; six sisters, Rose L. Welch of Auburn, Dorothy Kozloski, Betty Ann Fortin, Margaret Ferraro, Barbara A. Blanding and Anna M. Frascolla all of Worcester; seven grandchildren, James Jr, Christopher, Mary Rose, Leann, Robert, Kevin and Joseph; six great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Two brothers, Arthur "Artie", and Rocco Porcaro and a sister, Lena H. Dupre all pre deceased him. James was born in Worcester, his parents were the late Antonio and Assunta (Letrenta) Porcaro. He graduated from Worcester Public schools, joined the U.S. Army during World War II and has lived in Shrewsbury more than 48 years. James worked as a truck driver for the Teamsters local 170 with Consolidated Freight Company before retiring. He was a member of St Mary's Church, the Teamsters Local 170 and the Pope John Council, Knights of Columbus, the Eastside Post 201 American Legion and the Auburn Elks. He was a former member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. James and his wife used to enjoy their six month trips to Clearwater Florida in the winters. He was a member of an extremely large and devoted family to each other whom treasured their Italian heritage and family gatherings. He found comfort in helping and being with his children, grandchildren and siblings family. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, February 22nd from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Wednesday, February 23rd from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:00 am in St Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Burial with Military honors will be in Mt View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to St Mary's Church building fund, 640 Main St Shrewsbury.
