Robert B. Massad, Sr., 80 of Worcester passed away Sunday, February 6th after a brief illness. Robert was born in Beirut Lebanon, to American parents Anthony and Adele (Mizhir) Massad, while traveling and has lived here since the age of one. He graduated from St. John's High School and joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict to serve his country. Upon returning Robert earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and furthered his studies at the School of Industrial management. Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years Violet "Vi" (Kouri) Massad; his three children, Marilyn Massad of Cape Cod, Dr. Susan Massad, PhD of Framingham, and Robert Massad, Jr. of New Hampshire; one sister, Louise Kalil of Millbury; a granddaughter whom he cherished, Hannah Ross of Framingham; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Four sisters, Loretta Hyson, Eugenia Naimey, Theresa Helow and Emily Rezuke and a brother Edmond Massad all pre deceased him. Robert worked more than 35 years for Bay State Abrasives as a mechanical engineer before retiring. After retirement, he represented abrasives and allied products companies independently as a sales representative. Robert was a member of St George Orthodox Cathedral and its Board of Directors, men's club and Sunday school staff. Bob's other memberships and interests include The Professional Engineer's Society, the Society of Carbide Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He has been recognized for his excellence and lectures on Abrasives for Bay State Abrasives throughout the U.S. Robert also enjoyed golf, fishing, and woodworking. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, February 8th from 9 am to 10:45 am in St George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street. A service will follow at 11:00 am in the church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St Worcester 01604.
