James McCoy Sr

James R. McCoy, Sr., 82, of Worcester passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 19th in St Vincent Hospital after being stricken ill at work. Jim was born on February 18, 1928 in Worcester, a son of Frank and Mary (Daniels) McCoy. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1945, a member of the all city undefeated football team. Jim enlisted in the U.S.Navy in 1946 to serve his country during World War II. After his military service, he earned a degree in Management Training from Worcester Junior College and has lived in Worcester all his life. James wife of 55 years, Evelyn A. (Khoury) McCoy passed away in 2005. He was also predeceased by his brother Francis. He is survived by his devoted son, James R. McCoy, Jr. and his wife Susan of Worcester, a grandson, Khoury McCoy of Worcester; two sisters in law, Janice McCoy of Holden and Terri Priest of Worcester; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. James worked for several Worcester companies during his career, including Worcester Pressed Steel, R&A Machine Company and most recently as a tool maintenance technician for Curtis Industries, where he just received recognition for 15 years of service. He was still working at the time of his death. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart-St Catherine of Sweden Parish and the Lithuanian War Veterans Post. He was an avid fisherman, and handyman who could fix most things broken. He loved to work on mechanical projects and enjoyed a friendly game of cards with family and friends. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, January 23rd from 4 pm to 7 pm, in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. James funeral will be celebrated Monday, January 24th from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart-St Catherine of Sweden Church, 600 Cambridge St. Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
