Nickolas Demake

Nickolas Demake, 85 of Worcester, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011 in Saint Vincent Hospital. Nickolas' wife of sixty-two years, Androniki (Chachi) Demake passed away on July 19, 2010. He is survived by two sons, James Demake and his wife Carole of Auburn and George Demake and his wife Angela of Worcester; two daughters, Elaine Rocheford and her husband George of Lutz, FL and Lisa Mielnicki and her husband Anthony of Oxford; four adored grandchildren, Nick, Christopher, Andrew and Stephanie; 8 step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by a brother, Charles Demarky and a sister, Eva Pantos. Nickolas was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts a son of the late, James and Georgia (Kouropis) Demake. He graduated from Commerce High School and later attended both Clark University and Worcester State College. Nickolas entered the United States Marine Corp and served his country for twenty years during WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1967 as an E-7. After the service, he worked as an Industrial Safety Worker at Table Talk Pies. He later worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Office in Northborough for 10 years before retiring in 1987. He had lived more than 30 years in Shrewsbury before returning to Worcester eleven years ago. Nickolas was an active and very involved member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. He is also a former member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church where he was born and baptized. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially vacationing on Cape Cod and in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with them. He enjoyed the special times he and his wife shared traveling around the country together. Their family was their main inspiration in life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Nickolas's funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 19th at 10:00 am in St Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold St., Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, January 18th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester and again on Wednesday, January 19th from 9 am to 10 am in the church prior to the service. A Trisagion Service will be celebrated Tuesday, January 18th at 6:30 pm in the funeral home.
