Albert Boothby

December 31, 1923 — January 7, 2011

Albert G. "Al" Boothby, 87, of Boylston passed away Friday, January 7th with his family at his side. Albert was born in Gardner, Maine, a son of John and Mildred (Richards) Boothby. He attended high school in New Hampshire, joined the U.S. Army to serve his country in World War II. He earned the Purple Heart and bronze star medals for actions taken as a member of the first wave of soldiers in the Normandy Beach, D-Day invasion. He has lived in Boylston since 1964. Al worked as a member of the Building & Grounds maintenance Department of the Worcester State Hospital more than28 years before retiring. Al is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Kathleen (McCloskey) Boothby; Two children Patricia A. Ferraro and her husband Anthony of Shrewsbury; Albert Boothby, Jr. in Georgia; a brother, Lawrence Boothby in Charlton; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother, James Boothby pre deceased him. Al was a member of the Rochdale, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7556. The Massachusetts DAV Chapter. He enjoyed working outside and gardening. Most of all, his family was his life's inspiration. He cherished the time he could spend with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also loved his dog Bruno , and playing his daily numbers. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 13th at 12 noon in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends are invited to visit with the family, Thursday, January 13th from 11 am to 12 noon in the funeral home.
