Dorothy A. (Rice) Lalone, 87, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in The Auburn Life Care Center. Her husband of fifty-five years, Alfred T. "Ted" Lalone, predeceased her in 2002. Dorothy is survived by two sons, David E. Lalone and his wife Jean of Shrewsbury and Steven A. Lalone of Idaho; two daughters, Nancy A. Maki of North Oxford and Lisa G. Lalone of Manchester, NH; five grandchildren, Raymond Maki and his wife Shannon of Oxford, Nathaniel Lalone of London, Emily Lalone of Santa Monica, Amanda Maki and her partner Edwin Montalvo of Leicester, and Alyssa Maki of Oxford; two great grandchildren, Andreus and Riley; three generations of nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving sibling of eight brothers and sisters. Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Paul A. Lalone in 2006, and also by her son in law, Raymond M. Maki in 2002. Dorothy was born in Worcester, daughter of Anthony and Mary (Lutkus) Rice. She graduated from Worcester's Commerce High School and has lived here all her life. Dorothy worked for many years as a loan officer at Worcester County National Bank, having previously worked for Worcester Federal Savings and Paul Revere Insurance Company. She was a member of Saint George Roman Catholic Church in Worcester and its women's guild. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the "Bank Gals" lunch group. She was an accomplished needle work artisan, and enjoyed reading and traveling the world. She found great joy in the special times spent with her family. She also enjoyed trips with her daughters, especially to Maine. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 11, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint George Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 10, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
