David P. Whitney, 64, of North Oxford, a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away peacefully, January 4, 2011 in Auburn Life Care Center. He is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Linda (Przygoda) Whitney; his four daughters, Jenifer Wilson and her husband Doug, Rebecca Whitney; Kimberly Corcoran and her husband Michael and Kristin Whitney; a brother, Richard Whitney; a sister, Lynn Maloney; five grandchildren; Jakob Wilson, Kirsi Whitney, Michael Corcoran, Emily and Lily Gianfriddo; an aunt, Marjorie Eckel and three nephews, Brian Whitney, Matthew Whitney and Jason Maloney. He also leaves a stepson, Christopher Gianfriddo and his wife Denise. David was born in Saugus, MA on November 14, 1946, son of the late William C. & Muriel A. (Jones) Whitney. He has lived in North Oxford for fifteen years. He graduated from Westborough High School in 1964. He attended Valparaiso University from 1964 to 1969, when he was drafted into the United States Army, and he served his nation proudly during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge and return home, he graduated from Fitchburg State College to complete his degree. David owned and operated Towle-Whitney Company, an industrial valve manufacturer, which he eventually sold and he began working for Philip J. Lynch Company. He enjoyed football and cherished the outdoors. David had a fondness for family and the love and friendship that he shared with each member of the family; he especially loved his time spent with his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 7 at 7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, Worcester. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7p.m. in the funeral home prior to the service.
