Rose S. (Pingatore) Bafaro, 101 of Worcester passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010, two days before her 102nd birthday, at Shrewsbury Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center with family by her side. Rose was born in Krebs, Oklahoma on December 29th 1908, a daughter of Eugenio and Serafina (Valentina) Pingatore. She grew up in Krebs, lived nine years in Dubois, PA before moving to Worcester. She has lived here ever since. Rose's husband Victor Bafaro passed away in 1970. She is survived by her four children, Reverend Michael P. Bafaro former pastor of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Alfred C. Bafaro of Clinton, Genova "Jana" Dagnese and her husband George of Worcester, Victor V. Bafaro and his wife Paula of Mesa, AZ; two brothers, James and Samuel Pingatore in Chicago and a sister Carmela "Dolly" Reno of Worcester; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, many, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A grandson, John Bafaro passed away in 1992, two brothers, Frank and Domenic Pingatore and four sisters, Jessie Roncone, Frances DiMiglio, Rachel Paciello and Mary Bafaro all pre deceased her. Rose worked as a stitcher more than 50 years for clothing manufacturers Nancy Howard making Coats and sportswear and then Supreme Coat before retiring. During World War II, Rose also worked as an assembler for the former Harrington & Richardson. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, its Golden Years, and the Our Lady of Loreto Church Leisure Club. Mrs. Bafaro drove her car until the age of 92, and could be seen on her daily walks near her home on Blithewood Ave. She loved to sew, crochet and bake. She also maintained a large garden well into her late 80's. She was truly the head of her family and found her inspiration and love of life in her children and grandchildren. She cherished the moments she could be with them. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family on Sunday, January 2nd from 4-8 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her funeral will be held Monday, January 3rd from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church Renovation Fund, 24 Mulberry St. or the Worcester County Food Bank, 474 Boston Turnpike Rd. Shrewsbury, MA 01545. The Bafaro family would like to thank the UmassMemorial Hospice and the Shrewsbury Nursing home and rehab center for the outstanding care, compassion and comfort they gave to Rose in a difficult time. They would also like to thank the caregivers that helped Rose while she was in her own home.
