Dr. Audrey M. (Emmerson) Peters, 86 of Worcester and Tropical Haven, Melbourne Florida passed away peacefully Friday December 24th 2010, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Dr Peters was born September 26th 1924 in Waterbeach, Cambridge England, a daughter of Harold and Gladys (Gautrey) Emmerson. She graduated from the Perse School for Girls in Cambridge and earned her degree in Anesthesiology from Leeds Medical School in England. She was a member of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Surgeons in England. After completing an internship in Salisbury England, she came to the United States in 1951 for her medical residency in Elizabeth New Jersey. She finalized her residency at St Vincent Hospital in Worcester, where she met Dr. Louis Peters, a prominent Worcester dentist. Drs. Audrey and Louis Peters were married for 35 years, until his passing in 1990. Audrey worked as an anesthesiologist for more than 37 years on the staff of Holden District and St. Vincent Hospitals before retiring. Audrey is survived by her devoted children, Jonathan E. Peters and his wife Catherine of Worcester, Hannah M. Peters and her husband Baker Symes of St Louis MO, Janet A. Peters and her longtime companion Gino Fusaro with whom she lived; She was Sitto to four cherished grandchildren, Cindy Ann Peters, Jamie Lynn Peters, Jonathan P. Peters, and Zachary W. Symes; a brother, Robert Emmerson and a sister, Muriel Lelliott both in England; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends who loved her. A son, Richard "Ricky" Peters passed away in 1973. Dr Peters was a member and strong supporter of St. George Orthodox Cathedral and it's Women's Club, The Red Hat Society, the Melbourne Florida Elks Club, the British Tea Society in Florida and the American Medical Association. She loved to read, cook and play a variety of board games. She and her husband loved to travel worldwide and visited many countries internationally throughout their years. They were members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International since 1960, a club of airstream recreational vehicle owners and travelers. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and sitto, who cherished her family and took great pride in their growth, success and interests. She was dedicated to her English heritage and would often travel back to England for visits. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28th at 11:00 am in St George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, from 9:30 to 10:45 am prior to the service at the church.
