Robert F. Lutz, 95, a devoted and life long active resident of the Town of Shrewsbury Community passed away peacefully Saturday December 11th in his home with his family by his side. He was born April 2, 1915 in Boston, a son of John P. and Anna (McGuire) Lutz. He moved to Shrewsbury as a young boy, graduated from Shrewsbury High School Class of 1934, earned a degree in accounting from Becker College and has lived in Shrewsbury all his life. Bob was comptroller for 17 years for the Worcester Gas and Light Company, where he workerd with his brother John Lutz. Bob enjoyed working for over 50 years alongside his sister Olive and bother in law Spag as their accountant and Chief Financial Officer for Spags Supply Company. He loved the town of Shrewsbury and and was proud to be the longest serving elected Town Meeting Member since 1954. He was elected to the Shrewsbury School Committee in 1960 and served for twelve years as a Chairman and a member. He served at the request of Governor Volpe as a Trustee of Quinsigamond Junior College. As President of the Boston Turnpike Association, he was instrumental in helping the Shrewsbury Route 9 business community grow into the "Million Dollar Mile". He socialized with friends as a longtime member of the Shrewsbury Kiwanis Club, and had fun collecting Model T and A cars as a member of the Old Car Club. He was one of the original two founders of the Shrewsbury Electric Light and Cable company "SELCO", and served as one of their Commissioners for over 38 years. He along with an associate traveled to Boston and Washington DC to lobby and file the necessary paperwork to form this company. He was recently honored by his hometown as the 2009 Grand Marshal of the Shrewsbury Fall Festival, and enjoyed travelling down Maple Avenue in the parade to celebrate the Spirit of Shrewsbury. He was a member of St. Anne's Church and inspired many with his positive outlook on life. He loved serving the public and was a role model to his grandchildren Karyn and Ken who both have served the town of Shrewsbury. Robert's first wife Ellen R. (Burke) Lutz passed away in 1990. He is survived by his wife Margaret M. "Peg" (Murphy) Kearney-Lutz; his devoted daughter, Judy Polito and her husband Francis; two adored grandchildren, Kenneth Polito and his wife Irene, Karyn Polito and her husband Stephan Rodolakis all of Shrewsbury; a step daughter Mary and her husband Francis Granger of Worcester, their children Kevin, Robert, Brian and step granddaughter Mackenzie; four great grandchildren Gianna, Lena and Francis Polito, and Robert and Judy Rodolakis; a sister, Phyllis Packard of Shrewsbury; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother John Lutz and a sister, Olive Borgatti pre deceased him. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday December 13th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. Worcester. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Entombment will follow in St. John's Mausoleum.
