Mary E. (Volungis) Arena, 95, of Worcester passed away Thursday, November 11th 2010 with family at her side. Mary's husband of 52 years Michael A. Arena passed away in 1989. She is survived by her three children, Kenneth P. Arena and his wife Frances of West Boylston, Karen M. Johnson and her husband Raymond of Auburn, Robert M. Arena and his wife Carole of Kennebunk Beach, ME; four grandsons Michael, Robert, Christopher and Jeffrey; a granddaughter Kristen; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Volungis in CT and Richard Volungis in Ohio; a sister, Virginia Ivaska of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. Four brothers and sisters pre deceased her. Mary was born in Worcester, a daughter of Adam and Regina (Tomelawicz) Volungis and has lived here all her life. Mary worked many years for Worcester Envelope Company before retiring. She was a member of St. Stephens Church. She enjoyed knitting and sports especially the Boston Red Sox. Mary's love was her family, she cherished the time she could spend with her children, and specifically her grandchildren. They were her life's enjoyment. The funeral will be held TODAY, Saturday, November 13th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 11:00 am in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the Mass.
