Richard A. Torrey 84, of Worcester and Taunton died peacefully Sunday October 31, 2010 surrounded by his loving family in the UMASS Medical Center. His wife of 53 Years Helen B. "Babe" (Quinn) Torrey died in 1998. Richard is survived by a son Richard M "Rick" Torrey of Worcester, two daughters Sandra L. Credit of Webster, and Ann L. Torrey of Worcester, four grandchildren Pamela, Amy, Danielle, and Keith, seven great grandchildren, and his long time companion Barbara O' Flaherty of Taunton, many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother Ralph Torrey. Richard was born in Worcester son of the late Ralph J. and Olivevette (Bernier) Torrey and lived in Worcester most of his life. He attended Holy Name High School, and served as a Corporal in the United States Army during WW11. Richard was the Founder and Owner of the Richard A. Torrey Painting Company for many years before he retired. Richard was an avid New England Sports fan, and enjoyed a good day at the Casino. His most precious times were those spent with his family. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Richard's funeral will be held Wednesday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church 1222 Main St. Calling hours in the funeral home are from 5PM to 8PM on Tuesday. Interment with Military honors will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
