Giovanni Milan, 72, of Worcester a proud Italian and dedicated husband passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 26th 2010 surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Giovanni is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years,Antonia "Nina" (DiGioia) Milan; two brothers, Leone Milan and his wife Lina of Worcester, Nino Milan and his wife Rosanna; two sisters, Stella Milan and Fedora Milan all in Italy; many nieces, nephews, brothers in law , sisters in law and friends who loved him. Two brothers, Remo and Gino Milan both predeceased him. Giovanni was born in Venice, Italy a son of Gelindo and Erminia (Chieregato) Milan. He lived and worked in Italy before moving to Worcester in 1974. Giovanni and Nina would then travel frequently to Italy to visit and spend the winters in Naples, Florida. Giovanni worked for the City of Worcester DPW as a mechanic many years before retiring in 2004. He previously worked as a mechanic with his brothers in law, DiGioia Brothers. In Italy, before moving to the United States, Giovanni was a Sales Rep.,agent, and mechanic for Lambretta Motorcycles Inc. where he also did some racing. Giovanni was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church and the Brown Square Civic Club. He enjoyed Hunting and fishing especially with his brothers in law in New Hampshire. Giovanni also enjoyed billiards, and making homemade wine and Italian specialties. The most enjoyable times he spent were those with his wife and family. His smile and personality would light up a room when he entered it. He will be sorely missed by all. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday, October 29th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Giovanni's funeral will be held Saturday from the funeral home with a mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church Renovation Fund, 24 Mulberry St. Worcester 01604, or the Brown Square Civic Association, 639 Franklin St. Worcester.
