Ruth Lena (Santos) Clay, 77, of Worcester passed away home to the Lord, Sunday, October 17th 2010 in her home. Ruth's husband John Douglas Clay Sr. passed in 1990. Ruth is survived by her children, Dianna Lynn Gray and her husband Donald of Northboro, Paul E. Fonseca and his wife Laurie of Kissimmee Florida, Robert E. Gamble of Worcester, her grandson whom she raised Jose A. Ramos of Leicester, Deborah A. Cummings and Patricia Santos; three sisters, Louise Grace, Leah Pires and Beatrice Gomes all of Harwich; 72 grand and great grandchildren; Nieces, nephews and friends. a son, Carroll T. Fonseca , a son, John D. Clay Jr., two brothers, Frank Thather and Manuel Santos, Jr. and two sisters, Rose D. Thatcher-Rose and Mary Thatcher-Gomes all pre deceased her. She was born in Harwich, a daughter of Manual T. Santos, Sr., and Mary (Raneo) Santos and has lived here most of her life. Ruth worked as a Senior Companion over seventeen years for the Elder Services Association before becoming Ill. She previously worked as a Home Health Aide for the VNA Care Network and as private housekeeper for former Mayor Katz and the Hodes families. She was a member of Emanuel Baptist church. Simple women, Ruth cherished and honored her ability to work with and help the senior challenged people whom needed assistance. She also cherished her family and the special moments she could spend with them. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours from 9:30 am to 11:00 am Monday October 25th in the Emanuel Baptist Church, Main St. A Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am in the Church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Companion Program of Elder Services Worcester, 411 Main St. Worcester MA 01602 or the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston Ma.
