Mary E. (Harrahy) Belanger, 80, of Westborough, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2010 in Memorial Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband of thirty-eight years, Maurice R. Belanger. Mary is survived by her sons, Daniel R. Belanger and his wife Lori Stanlick of Peekskill, NY and Joseph D. Belanger and his wife Lynne of Tallahassee, Florida; two brothers, John Harrahy in New Hampshire and Peter Harrahy in Georgia; a sister, Eleanor Clement also in New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Nicole, Brian and Robert; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Roderick MacLean and by a brother, Donald Harrahy. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Doone) Harrahy and graduated from Worcester South High School in 1948. Mary then attended and graduated with both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Boston University and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Mary was a teacher for many years at Doherty High School in Worcester, where she taught the art of romance languages to her students. Through her teaching and guidance, students learned to better their English and learned to speak French and Spanish. She was a devoted member and parish leader at Saint Rose of Lima Church, where she participated in the women's club and served as a lector. She was devoted to her family and to the many people that she came in contact with. Mary loved Cape Cod, the beach, swimming and travel. She also enjoyed acting and reading. Her kindnesses to others, some only known to her, will long be remembered by all those who loved her. Calling hours for Mary will be held tomorrow morning, Tuesday, October 12, from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main Street, Northborough.
