John B. DeSalvio, 76, of Worcester died peacefully Friday October 8, 2010 in the Life Care Center of Auburn after a long illness. His wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Kulesza) DeSalvio died in 2004. John is survived by a sister Louise Pavone and her husband Peter of Worcester, his five nieces; Maureen Mastrovito, Karen Sherback and her husband Charles of Egg Harbor City, N.J. Sandra Zdonczyk and her husband Paul of Auburn, Shauna Moriarty and Diane Moriarty both of Worcester, a great niece Lisa Wilhelmsen, a great nephew Jason Mastrovito, and a great great niece Emily Wilhelmsen whom he affectionately called Molly. John was predeceased by a sister Josephine Moriarty and a nephew , Angelo Santa Maria. John was born in Worcester son of the late Rose (Cilberto) DeSalvio - Daskowski and Matteo DeSalvio and Walter Daskowski, and lived here all his life. He served as a Paratrooper in the Army during the Korean War. John worked as a Restaurant Manager for several local establishments for many years before he retired. John was a proud leader of the Local Alcoholic s Anonymous meetings for the last twenty six years. He felt honored and privileged to be a part of and sponsor to so many individuals through their sobriety. It was a very important and joyful part of his life, as he felt these individuals were part of his family. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. John was a life member of Our Lady of Loreto Parish where he and Betty enjoyed helping out at various church functions. He was also a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club. John's funeral will be held Wednesday October 13, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady Of Loreto Church 33 Massasoit Rd. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00PM on Tuesday. Interment will be alongside his wife Betty in Notre Dame Cemetery.
