Robert H Zeveska

May 3, 1927 — September 28, 2010

Robert H. Zeveska, 83, of Worcester, passed away Tuesday, September 28, after a long struggle with leukemia. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Jeanne M. (Marois) Zeveska; two sons, Paul E. Zeveska of Worcester and Thomas R. Zeveska and Chris Kelley of Worcester; four daughters, Christine E.Hubbard and her husband Allen of Westfield, Catherine J. Fox and her husband Stephen of Sterling, Carol J. Crowley and Kevin McKee of Holden, and Cynthia K. Malnicof and her husband Craig of Holden; and eight grandchildren, Mitchell and Melanie Hubbard, Stephen Jr. and Julie Fox, Zachary and Mary Kate Crowley, and William and Andrew Malnicof. Born in Worcester, Robert was lovingly raised by his mother Christine G. (Hall) Zeveska who died when he was eighteen. Upon graduating from Classical High, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Once discharged he went to work at the New England Telephone Company, becoming a district supervisor and retiring in 1984 after thirty-eight years of service. An avid reader versed in Latin, Robert was self-taught and skilled in many trades using them to build a home in Worcester with his beloved Jeanne. A versatile outdoorsman, he enjoyed striper fishing with friends at the Cape, the solitude of fly fishing, and the company of his favorite dog Rags while hunting. He continued to engage in varied sports throughout his life; speed skating on Indian Lake, playing tennis at Holden Towers, running with the Central Mass Striders, and working out at the Greendale Y, of which he was a forty year member. Singularly, his life's passion was his family. They spent many summers on Lake Lashaway in East Brookfield, enjoying years of weekends together swimming, fishing, playing hoop, and just having fun. Whether watching his children play sports, reading them Robert Frost, or taking a long motorcycle ride to Vermont with his wife, all were most important because he was with his family. "finis vitae sed non amoris" - The end of life, but not of love. A private service will be held at Mercadante Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 350 Plantation St., Worcester MA, 01604.
