Vincent Maiorano, 84, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2010 in Saint Vincent Hospital. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Ruth R. (Scarcello) Maiorano; a daughter, Paula J. Paldino of Worcester; two sons, Vincent F. Maiornao and his wife Carol of Worcester and Steven Maiorano and his wife Janice of Millbury; a sister Antoinette "Toni" Robidoux and her husband Joseph of Rochdale; two grandsons, Michael and Steven Paldino; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Vincent was born in Worcester, son of Giovanni M. and Rossa F. (Guarini) Maiorano and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Commerce High School and attended Holy Cross and Worcester Junior Colleges. He served his nation proudly in the United States Navy, in the Naval Air Force, during World War II. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and was a tail gunner and navigator aboard B-14 Liberators. Vincent worked for the Worcester County Treasurers Office for thirty years, retiring in 1996 as the Assistant County Treasurer. He worked at Renda Clothing for a number ofyears and had co-owned Vee-Jay Manufacturing Inc. Vincent worked hard for his family, his community and his fellow workers. He was a founder of the Worcester County Employees Association and it's Labor Relations Committee. He also held many positions within the Worcester County Employees Credit Union, including Assistant Treasurer. He was a trustee for the Worcester Labor Council, serving several years as Vice-President. He was a member of past President of Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union, Local 413 & 174. He was elected to Worcester County Charter Commission, District 5, and was nominated, Judiciary Committee for Clerk of Housing Court. He was a life time member and past President of Brown Square Civic Club, and had served on the house committee and bylaw committee. He volunteered for the United Way and served as Vice President of Legal Services Policy Committee and a member of the General Council for the Worcester Community Action Council. He was a member of South East Improvement Council and the Citizens for Neighborhood Improvement Council, having served as President for both. He was active in the early political careers of the Kennedy brothers, as a Worcester County Organizer for John F. Kennedy and Edward M. Kennedy in their bids for a Senate seat. He was a member and Past President of the Worcester Young Democrat Committee; and was on the Welcome Home Committee for Corporal Joseph Rovezzi, Korean P.O.W. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 4, American Legion Post 201, AARP, Order Sons of Italy in America Lodge 168 and Ward 4 Democratic Committee. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Vincent's family on Friday, October 1, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester; followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint John's Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery.
