David L. Drake, Sr. 96, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2010 in Bolton Manor Nursing and Rehab Center with his loving family by his side. David is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Grace G. (Tomasello) Drake; two sons, Steven Drake of Worcester and Dennis Drake and his wife Sheila of Paxton; one sister, Edith Stevens of Bangor, ME; eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son, David L. Drake, Jr., whom was killed in the line of duty serving his country during the Vietnam War; a daughter, Maryellen Wilson; a grandson, Michael Drake; seven sisters, Myra Whitneck, Virginia Roy, Elaine Thompson, Mary Brown, Dorothy Shaw, Susie Hanscom and Annie Brawn; seven brothers, Bill, Vaughn, John, Nelson, and Evard Drake, and two other brothers that died at a very young age before David was born. David was born in Caribou, ME, a son of the late Allen and Lillian (Ayotte) Drake. He was born and raised in Maine and later moved to Worcester and has lived here since then. He worked in the maintenance department for Friendly's for many years. He previously worked for Worcester Press Steel for 33 years before retiring in 1971. He was a member of the former St. Margaret Mary Church, where he used to volunteer to work Bingo. He later became a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church. He loved gardening, carpentry, Bingo, Foxwood's Casino; loved to tell childhood stories to anyone who would listen. He was also a part of the Gold Star Families in which he would support families who had lost a family member in the Iraq War. David's funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 28th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in Saint John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday, September 27th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Flowers are welcome.
