Gennaro "Jerry" Vescera, 90, of Worcester passed away Sunday, September 19th 2010 with his family by his side. Jerry was born May 5th 1920, in Vieste, province of Foggia Italy, a son of Andrew and Anna (Scarano) Vescera. He came to the United States at the age of 8, graduated from Commerce High School, and joined the United States Army during World War II. Upon return Jerry earned his degree in teaching from Fitchburg State College and has lived here all his life. Jerry was a Machine Shop Teacher at Worcester Vocational Trade formerly Boys Trade more than 36 years before retiring in 1992. Jerry's 1st wife Mary (Falcone) Vescera passed away in 1969. His second wife Harriet (Hazelwood) Vescera passed away in 2000. He is survived by his five children; Mary Ann Bresnahan and her husband Mark of Sterling, Elaine Osgood and her husband Peter of Westborough, Gale Cassidy of Thompson CT, Gerald Vescera and his wife Kathleen of Uxbridge and Andrew G Vescera of Worcester; a brother, Bart Vescera and a sister Josephine Tomasetta both of Worcester; eight grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Jerry was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, the Eastside Post 201, American Legion, The Worcester Lodge of Elks, the Pope John Council Knights of Columbus and the Froshinn Club. Jerry was an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed and supported the Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox. Jerry was a man who cherished his Italian Heritage and devoted his life to his children, grandchildren and students. He found purpose in enjoying the times he could spend with his family. They were his life's purpose. Friends are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, September 21st from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Wednesday, September 22nd from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in St John Cemetery.
