Myron L. Johnson, 87, of Worcester, formerly of Kissimmee Florida and Erie PA passed away Friday, September 17th 2010 surrounded by family. Myron was born in Erie, PA, a son of Myron and Frances (Hardner) Johnson. He graduated from High School in Erie, joined the U.S. Army during World War II to serve his country. Upon his return, Myron earned a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburg. He lived and worked as a chemical engineer for the Union Iron Works in Erie, until transferring his employment to Riley-Stoker Company in Worcester in 1969. He remained in Worcester until retiring in 1987. Myron and his wife Thelma then lived 17 years in Kissimmee Florida returning to Worcester in 2004. Myron is survived by his wife and partner of 62 years, Thelma A. (LaFontaine) Johnson; his six devoted children, Marcia Downey and her husband Chuck of Worcester, Gail Johnson-Goodness and her fiancée Doug Wittmer of Shrewsbury, Bruce Johnson and his wife Mary, Diane Johnson and her companion Shawn Hill all of Worcester, Beverly Johnson and her husband Mark Bergstrom of Oxford, Susan Brosnihan and her husband Dennis of Dudley; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends. A brother, Kenneth Johnson pre deceased him. Myron was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church, the Greendale Retired Men's Club, and the VFW Post 6907 in West Boylston. He was an enthusiastic golfer and an avid Red Sox fan. Myron locally golfed at Bay Path Golf course and in Florida was a member of the Walking Sticks Golf Club. Myron was a devoted family man who enjoyed the company of his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. He cherished the times and special memories that he could share with them. His kindness and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed. Myron's celebration of life funeral will be held Tuesday, September 21st from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends are invited to visit with the family Monday, September 20th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the funeral home.
