Carl T. Bernart, 83, of Holden died peacefully Thursday September 9, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. Carl is survived by his former wife Joan (Creegan) Bernart, two daughters, Joan Herbert of Holden, Carleen Patrone and her husband Frank of Princeton, a brother Walter Kalczynski of Shrewsbury, a sister Joyce Ann Harrahy of Merrimack N.H. five grandchildren, Joseph Chronchio, Kimberly Chronchio, Jeff Altieri, Bryan Patrone, Jeffrey Patrone and his wife Kati and Tommy Herbert, and many nephews and nieces. Also mourning his loss is his long time canine companion Sally. Carl was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Regan and Mary Zinkavich. Carl was born in Palmer son of the late Mary A. Bernat and Joseph V. Kalczynski and lived in Worcester most of his life. He was a graduate of Leicester Junior College. He served in the Navy and was a Private First Class in the Army during WWII. Among several medals he received, were the American Area Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal. Upon returning home Carl worked as a buyer for the former Jordan Marsh Stores, and was also a Class 2 Fireman for the Worcester Wire Company, the L. Farber Company and the Chase Paper Company. Carl enjoyed fishing, taking care of the family pets, and enjoying a good cigar. But is most precious times were those spent with his family and Sally. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Carl's funeral will be held Monday September 13, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30AM in the Church of St John 40 Temple St. A period of visitation with the family will be held Monday morning from 8:30AM to 10:00AM in the funeral home. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
