Donald P. Govoni, Jr., 59, of Harwich, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, August 2, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Don is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of thirty-seven years, Barbara A. (Thomas) Govoni; two daughters, Kelly O'Connell and her husband PJ of Shrewsbury and Katie Keith and her husband Chad of Sandwich; a son, Mark Govoni and his wife Lisa of New York City; three cherished grandchildren, Drew James and Brady Donald O'Connell and Emma Kate Keith; his father, Donald P. Govoni, Sr. of Dennis; five brothers, Thomas and his wife Janice of Sandwich, Joseph and his wife Heidi and Paul and his wife Mary Jo all of Yarmouthport, Andrew and his wife Lisa and Bernard and his wife Ann Marie all of Shrewsbury; nieces, nephews, close family and friends. Don was predeceased by his mom, Bernadette and by his brother, James. He was born in Worcester and lived many years in Shrewsbury, graduating from Saint John's High School and later from Saint Anselm College. Don found enjoyment in his work as The Yard Master for Allen Marine Services on Cape Cod, where his colleagues were like friends and family. He enjoyed the family and friendly atmosphere of the marina, having worked for many years in his family business, managing and co-owning Govoni and Sons Construction in Worcester, before moving to the Cape in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, trips to Myrtle Beach and Marco Island and the New England Sports Teams. He was active in Shrewsbury Little League as a baseball coach for many years. Don had a fondness for family and the love and friendship that he shared with each member of his family; he especially loved his "Papi" time with his grandchildren. The Govoni's would like to thank Dana Farber's Doctors and Staff, especially nurses Annie and Allison; as well as nurses Moira, Maureen and Margo from the VNA and from Hospice of Cape Cod. Their care and expert support will be remembered for many years to come. His funeral will be held on Friday, August 6, from the funeral home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, 120 Boston Turnpike (Route 9), Shrewsbury, MA. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
