Marguerite "Peg" Courtney, 92, of 9 Maury Lane, Shrewsbury passed away peacefully on May 12, 2010. Mrs. Courtney was born in Worcester, Ma, the daughter of Edward J. and Mary C. Collins, a graduate of St. Peter's High School and Becker College, where she excelled in basketball. Predeceased by Frederick "Bill" Courtney, her husband of 58 years, Marguerite Walsh Courtney is survived by two sons; Kevin J. Courtney and his wife Nancy of Greenfield, William E. and his wife Patricia of Belchertown; three daughters, Kathleen M. and her husband Robert Thompson of Deerfield, Maureen A. Courtney of Auburn and Patricia M. and her husband John Keenan of Northampton; a sister, Winifred Gingras of Worcester and eight grandchildren, Tim, Liz, Jeff and his fiancé Sarah, Erin, Allie, Joe, Billy and Tom and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Four brothers; John, Edward, James, and Joseph Walsh and one sister Bernadette Govoni all predeceased her. A longtime Shrewsbury resident, Peg lived her life to the fullest: active with Girl Scouts, St. Anne's Women's League, The Shrewsbury Miniature Club, and the "good time girl's lunch bunch." Peg was especially proud of her Irish heritage, living her life with a quiet warm sense of humor, always "taking time to smell the roses." She enjoyed music, sports, ocean vacations, and ah the good times with her grandchildren. The Courtney Family is especially grateful to Teresia Ward for her outstanding loving care and kindness. Marguerite's funeral will be held Monday, May 17th, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, May 16th from 3- 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
