George V. Jones, 87, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2010 in UMass Hospital. George is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Jennie M. (Acquaro) Jones; two sons, George V. Jones, Jr. and his wife Susan of Worcester and Ernest Jones and his wife Roberta Fabbrini of Rome, Italy; two daughters, Margaret Abboud and her husband Moussa of Worcester and Elizabeth Jones in Ohio; two brothers, John Jones of Worcester and Peter Jones of Colchester, Vermont; four grandchildren, Kayla, Christian, Isabelle and Malcolm; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Jones. He was born in Worcester the son of Ernest and Ida (Queshi) Jones and has lived here all his life. He served his nation proudly in the United States Navy, during World War II, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. George was a Real Estate Broker for many years and was the President of Ernest P. Jones Realty Trust Company. He was a member of Saint Mary Albanian Orthodox Church, a proud member of the Sons of Saint Mary, the Worcester Lodge of Elks number 243, American Legion Post 341 and DAV Chapter 4. He was a volunteer for Elder Services on West Mountain Street in Worcester and was active at the Greendale Y.M.C.A. George was a affable man who made many friends during his years as a bartender at the Cape Cod Grill and The Boynton, both in Worcester. He was affectionately known as "The (teddy) Bear" of Tatnuck Square and the honorary Mayor of Tatnuck Square, because he befriended many in the neighborhood on his daily walks with his best pal Max. George's family would like to extend a special thank you to the kind people at The Odd Fellows Home, for their wonderful care and kindness. Calling hours will be held Monday, April 26, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. The Worcester Lodge of Elks will gather at 6 p.m. to conduct their ritual and A Trisagion Service will take place at 7 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27 in Saint Mary Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
