Christopher T. Martin, 62, a decorated war veteran of Worcester died peacefully Tuesday April 6, 2010 in the Holy Trinity Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Christopher is survived by his son Christopher P. Martin of Paxton, two brothers, Henry C. Martin Jr. of Worcester, and Michael P. Martin of Rutland, his former wife Katherine (Rittberg) Martin of Paxton, several aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins especially his nephew Michael Martin. Chris was born in Worcester son of the late Henry C. Martin Sr. and Dora (Theodore) Martin and lived in Worcester most of his life. He lived in Paxton for several years before returning to Worcester. Chris was a graduate of South High School class of "66" and also received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Quinsigamond Community College.In 1965 he was an All City third baseman for the T&G All Star Baseball team. Christopher was a United States Postal Carrier for 36 years and covered the Main St. route for most of his employment before he retired. Christopher was awarded three Purple Hearts for wounds received while serving with the Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division in Vietnam. He was also awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in action, the Bronze Star for military action, the Army Commendation Medal with "V" for heroism in action, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. Chris received the Purple Hearts after he was wounded on three different occasions helping his comrades. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, The National Association of Letter Carriers, and several VFW and American Legion Posts. He was a staunch supporter of all Veteran Affairs. Christopher was an avid Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan and loved to collect sports memorabilia, and liked to listen to Elvis. However his most precious times were those spent with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Christopher's funeral will be held Saturday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held from 5-8PM on Friday. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Johns Cemetery.
