Thomas F. McMahon, Sr. 90, of Worcester passed away Monday, April 5th 2010 with family at his side after a long illness. Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Ruth H. (Carraher) McMahon; a daughter, Karen E. Demuth and her husband Dan of Woodstock Ct; two sons, Richard A. McMahon and his wife Sheronna in Conroy Texas, Harry W. McMahon and his wife Eleanor in Linden Virginia; a brother, George McMahon of Worcester; thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. A son Thomas F. McMahon, Jr. passed away in 2008. Two brothers, Walter and James and two sisters, Evelyn and Marion all pre deceased him; Thomas was born in Worcester, his parents were the late George S. and Anastasia (Witas) McMahon. He attended Worcester Public Schools; enter the U.S. Army in 1940 prior to World War II. Thomas served his country for five years taking part in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and Battle of the Bulge. He earned three bronze battle stars. He has lived in Worcester all his life. Thomas worked as a truck driver for Associated Transport Company more than 25 years before retiring in 1972. He previously owned and operated G.T. McMahon Trucking. He was a member of St. Anne's Church, a former member of St Margaret Mary. Tom was a member of the Teamsters Local 170, a Life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #4. The Eastside Post 201 American Legion and the VFW Post 6907 in West Boylston and the Normandy Beach head Foundation. The funeral will be held Friday, April 9th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Anne, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Worcester County memorial park in Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Friday April 9th in the funeral home.
