RV "Don" Bryant, 78, of Worcester , a retired 32 year Worcester Police Detective passed away Tuesday, March 30th 2010 after suffering a heart attack while driving with his wife. RV was born April 28th 1931 in McCrury Texas, a son of Ralph J. and Myrtie (Weaver) Bryant. He graduated from High School in Texas, and joined the Army to serve his country during the Korean War. While on Active duty stationed at Ft. Devens, RV met his wife and partner of the past 56 years, Mary (Lyons) Bryant at a dance. They married and moved to Worcester and have lived here since 1952. A devoted Husband, father and grandfather, RV is survived by his wife, Mary; a cherished daughter Donna Morse and her husband Clifford of Worcester; three adoring grandchildren, Cathryn L., twin boys Michael C. and Brian R. Morse; many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly. A brother, Waymon W. Bryant predeceased him. RV worked more than 32 years as a Police Officer, 29 of those years as a Detective for the City of Worcester before retiring. He previously worked for the former Heald Machine Company. He was a 32nd degree Morning Star Lodge Mason. He was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, the retired Police and Firefighters Relief Association, the Worcester Police and Shrewsbury Credit Unions, and the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Union. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 2nd at 11:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Worcester. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Thursday, April 1st from 5 pm to 8 pm in the funeral home.
