James P. "Jim" Heron, 73 of Worcester formerly of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 30th 2010 surrounded by his family. James was born July 4, 1936, in Woburn the son of the late Peter Francis and Hedwig (Sampson) Heron. He graduated from St. John Prep in Danvers, attended Holy Cross College and earned a triple major degree from Worcester State College. James joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War, retiring after 20 years as a Technical Sergeant, he then worked more than 20 more years for the U.S. Postal Service at the Shrewsbury Production Facility before retiring. James wife of 44 years, Teresa (Principe) Heron passed away in December of 2002. He is survived by his four devoted children, James P. Heron, Jr., Andrea DiPilla and her husband John, Michelle Heron, Monica Childers and her husband Eric; five sisters, Frances March, Mary McLaughlin, Sister Ann Estelle Heron, Sisters of Notre Dame, Jean Ellen and Joanne Heron; eight grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. An infant daughter, Patricia A.E. Heron passed away in 1963. James was a member of St. Anne's Church. A member of the Postal Workers Union, and the Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury. He was an avid reader, golfer, and enjoyed music. James was also an active member of St. John's Prep Alumni Association in Danvers. The funeral will be held Friday, April 2nd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. with a Liturgy of the Word service, at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St Anne, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd Shrewsbury. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Mt View Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home prior to the service.
