Ruth E. (Sheanon) Melican, 89, of Shrewsbury formerly of Melrose St Worcester passed away Friday, March 5th 2010 in her home surrounded by her cherished family. Ruth's husband of 57 years, Worcester Police Captain Joseph P. Melican passed away in 2001. She is survived by her devoted children, Anne K. Servideo and her husband Joseph with whom Ruth lived and were her principal caregivers, Ruth Baer-Gentile and her husband Tommy of Worcester, Joseph P. Melican, Jr. and his wife Eileen of Shrewsbury: five grandchildren, Michael Baer, Jennifer and Andrew Servideo, Katelynn Babigian and Jillian Melican; two great grandchildren, Kevin and Caitlin; nieces, nephews and friends. A sister, Eleanor A. Shattuck pre deceased her. Ruth was born in Boston a daughter of Joseph P. and Alice R. (Mullins) Sheanon. She graduated from Commerce High School and lived in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury. Ruth was a member of St Bernard's Church and the Worcester Police Department Women's Auxiliary. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was her life's inspiration. She adored them and their company and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The funeral will be held Tuesday, March 9th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a celebration of Life Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Freinds and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Monday, March 8th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
