Mary V. ( O'Leary) Dunkerly, 60, of Portland Maine, formerly of Paxton died unexpectedly Friday February 26, 2010 from injuries she received in a car accident in New Hampshire. Mary is survived by her loving family; her husband of 40 years Allan S. Dunkerly, her mother Mary A. (Yankus) O'Leary of Worcester, a daughter Melissa A. Smith and her husband Adam of Paxton, two grandsons Zackery and Austin Smith, a brother Daniel R. O'Leary Jr. and his wife Deneen of Norton, two sisters Catherine Tyler and her husband Robert of Southbury CT. and Maureen Lloyd and her husband Terence of Worcester, and many brothers in law and sister in laws, nephews, and nieces. Aunts and Uncles. Her father was the late Daniel Rockwood O'Leary. Mary was born in Worcester and lived here and then Paxton most of her life before moving to Portland ten years ago. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and Worcester State Teachers College. She earned her Master's Degree in Education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Mary taught at South High School and the Worcester East Middle School for many years, before she moved to Portland, there she worked at the Southern Maine Community College before she retired. Mary enjoyed writing screen plays and received several awards for her screen writing from the Portland Community Film Festival Association, and also from the New York Film Festival Society. She produced several short films. Mary attended the First Congregational Church of Paxton. However her most precious times were those spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday March 5, 2010 at 10:30AM in the First Congregational Church 1 Church Rd. Paxton. Calling hours in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St are from 3PM to 7PM on Thursday. Relatives and friends attending the funeral on Friday are asked to go directly to church there will be no procession from the funeral home. Contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
