Charles R. Marzilli, 88, of Worcester passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 17th 2010, after an illness. His family was by his side. Charles was born on February 20th 1922, one of nine children of the late Luigi and Jennie (Casa) Marzilli. He graduated from Commerce High School, joined the U.S. Army during World War II to serve his country and has lived here in Worcester all his life. Charles worked more than 33 years for Morgan Construction Company before retiring in 1984. He is survived by his cherished wife of 62 years, Ruth M. (Cobill) Marzilli; his two children, Robert Marzilli and his wife Sharon of Worcester, Nancy Marzilli and her husband Lenny Mhlaba of Newton; four granddaughters, Lauren Schuller and her husband Peter, Kimberly and Julia Mhlaba, Meleni Mhlaba-Adebo and her husband Olumide; many nieces, nephews and friends. Four sisters, Josephine, Mary, Congetta and Carmella, and four brothers, Anthony, Salvatore, Paul and Albert all pre deceased him. Charles was a member of St. Georges Church, and attended mass regularly until he physically could not. He was a member of the Greendale Retired Men's club, the American Legion Post # 319 and the DAV Chapter #4. He enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and the beaches of Maine, and many happy years in retirement which he often referred to as "The best job he ever had". The funeral will be held Monday, February 22nd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Georges Church, 40 Brattle St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours Monday morning in the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 am prior to the Mass.
