Richard H. "Bunky" Grann, 87, of Worcester, passed away, due to cancer, February 14, 2010. He is survived by his son, David R. Grann of Shirley; his daughters, Nancy J. Parmenter and her husband Wayne of San Marcos, California and Diana B. McGann with whom he lived. Richard also leaves two grandchildren, Wendy Crawford and her husband Jim and Geoffrey Parmenter; two great granddaughters, Emily and Isabella Crawford all in CA. He also leaves his "Best Friend", Kenny Gaucher of Shrewsbury, with whom he loved to tip a few "brewskees" and try to beat the lottery with his favorite game, Keno; Mike Keville, who he thought of as another son and Paul Pavone, who he thought of as a brother. He was married for thirty-nine years to his sweet heart, T. D. Penny (Gifford) Grann, who passed away in 1986. Dick was predeceased by two precious grandsons, Keith J. Bucinskas-McGann and Justin J. McGann; as well as two brothers, Toivo of Finland and Carl Grann and by four sisters, Helen Anderson, Lillian Turner, Sarah LaFleur and Edith Mills. Born in Worcester the son of John and Amelia (Harri) Grann, he was extremely proud of his Finnish Heritage. Richard served two tours in the combat infantry during World War II, in the Philippines and New Guinea, where he earned a Purple Heart and numerous medals and citations and obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He then spent nearly forty years in the Army reserves. He retired from the City of Worcester DPW and from Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, he had previously worked for American Steel and Wire. He was a life member of the Southworks Post VFW, and the Auburn Elks Club. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 20 at 11 a.m. in Worcester County Memorial Park, Section Heritage I, Paxton. There are no calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations be made to the Massachusetts Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove Street, Worcester.
