Leo C. Errara, 74 of Jamestown RI formerly of Shrewsbury passed away February 6th 2010, at the home his daughter, surrounded by his loving family. Leo was born in Worcester, a son of Joseph and Anna (Serio) Errara. He grew up and lived in Shrewsbury before moving to Jamestown 19 years ago. Leo is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years Eunice M (Gallant) Errara, his three beloved children, Lisa A Birnie and her husband James, Debbie Johnson and her husband Paul , Michael J Errara and his wife MaryLou all of Shrewsbury, two sisters Rita Burnett of Stockton CA and Congetta Sammartino of Park Ridge NJ, five cherished grandchildren, James Birnie, Sam, Grace, John and Juliana Errara; his sister-in-law Rhea Gallant of Port Charlotte, Fl.; many nieces, nephews and friends. Three brothers, John, Joseph and George Errara and four sisters, Lena DeFalco, Mary Ditullio, Jenny Monfreda and Florence Errara all pre deceased him. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Johnson family and his own private nurse, Sandra Weed who provided comfort to him and his family, throughout his battle with cancer. Leo worked as a truck mechanic for more than 37 years at TNT-Red Star Express before retiring. He also worked part-time for over 60 years at Lovey's Garage. Leo was a Drag racing enthusiast. He owned his own drag car named "Big Leo", racing in Orange and New Bedford Ma, Charlestown RI, Sanford Maine and East Haddam CT. where he won many races and numerous trophies. Leo was inducted into the Tyrods Hall of Fame. He was also a Flagman for Drag Racing in the 1950's and 1960's. Leo was recognized in 1999 in Hot Rod Magazine for his dedication to Drag Racing. He was a member of St Anne's Church in Shrewsbury and St Marks Church in Jamestown, the Teamsters Union Local 170 and the Knights of Columbus Adelphi Council #4181 in Shrewsbury and St Marks Council #9197 in Jamestown. Besides the comfort and enjoyment Leo received from his family and friends who were his life's inspiration, Leo also liked to fish and dig for quahogs. The funeral will be held Tuesday, February 9th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St Worcester with a mass at 10:30 AM in the Church of St Anne, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Burial will be in Mt View Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday, February 8th from 4 to 8 pm in the funeral home Members of the Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus will meet at 6:30 pm in the funeral home to conduct their ritual.
