Sophie Laba

Sophie W. (Kleczek) Laba, 86 of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2009 in her home with her daughter by her side. Her husband, Joseph Laba predeceased her in May of 2006. She is survived by her two children, Charles Peter Laba and his wife Maria of Princeton and Jane L. Laba of Worcester. Sophie had several brothers and a sister predecease her. Sophie was born in Poland on August 29, 1923. She moved to United States from Germany after WWII to join her family in New Jersey. She then married her husband Joseph and moved to Worcester more than fifty years ago. Sophie was an avid walker and would often be seen walking in the downtown Worcester area doing her various errands. She cherished her flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing, dancing and going to the movies. She was a wonderful cook and found great happiness gathering her family around the table. Calling hours will be held Saturday, February 6, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 44 Ward Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. The family would enjoy any flowers you may send.
