Arthur J. "Art" Papandrea, 78, a retired Worcester School system teacher and coach passed away Wednesday December 23rd 2009 with his family by his side. Arthur was born May 7th 1931 in The Bronx New York, a son of Anthony and Mary (Lobello) Papandrea. He grew up in Worcester, and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade. Arthur then entered the U.S. Army to serve his country proudly for three years during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning to Worcester Arthur earned is bachelors degree in education from Springfield College and later his Masters degree in education. He has lived in the Worcester Area all his life. Arthur is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 48 years, Marie V. (Ventura) Papandrea; his four devoted children, Arthur Papandrea Jr. and his wife Kathryn, Anthony Papandrea and his wife Heather all of Sterling, Mary Menard and her husband Michael of Holden, Paul Papandrea and his wife Danielle of West Boylston; a brother, Salvatore Papandrea of Auburn; eight cherished grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends. A brother Joseph Papandrea pre deceased him. Art was a well respected educator and coach for the City Of Worcester more than 35 years at Chandler Junior and North High School before retiring in 1994. After his retirement Arthur loved spending time with his family, in his garden and with his friends at the Syrian/Lebanese Men's Club. Arthur's funeral will be held Tuesday, December 29th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Monday, December 28th from 4 pm to 8 pm in the funeral home.
