Judith Ann (Mullen) Kowalik, 74, formerly of Bowker Street in Worcester, passed away, Tuesday, November 10, 2009, in Saint Vincent Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward C. Kowalik, with whom she celebrated fifty-three years of matrimony on August 11. Judith also leaves a son, Christopher Charles Kowalik of Worcester; two daughters, Kathleen A. Kowalik and Kelly J. Solitro and her husband Mathew A. Solitro, all of Worcester; a brother, Thomas J. Mullen of Shrewsbury; a sister Kathleen E. Morrow of Worcester; five grandchildren, Matthew Edward Kowalik, Allison Leigh Kowalik, Dominic Antonio Solitro, Vincent Edward Solitro, Dante Matteo Solitro; as well as many nieces and nephews. A daughter, Kim M. Kowalik-Murphy, two brothers, Francis and Edward Mullen and a sister, Vera M. Buron, all predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Edward L. and Vera M. (Hildreth) Mullen. She grew up in Shrewsbury and graduated from Saint Peter's High School, before moving to Milwaukee for several years with her husband, returning to Worcester in 1959. Mrs. Kowalik worked for many years at a bookkeeper with John J. Adams Tool and Die Company, before retiring. She had previously worked for the City of Worcester and was Night Operations Manager for Multibank Corporation for many years. She was a member of Saint John's Church. She was a talented seamstress and created many custom draperies, for homes and businesses throughout Worcester. In her retirement, Judith got great fulfillment from her grandchildren. Her life was full of love from family, and she will long be remembered as a caring and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. The funeral for Judith will be held Friday, November 13, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint John's Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment in Saint John's Cemetery, will be held privately. Calling hours will be held Thursday, November 12, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
