April Shanta Fencher, 42, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009, in UMass Hospital. She is survived by her mother, Sandra (Matier) Ahlijah of Worcester; two brothers, Theodore Fencher and Jamaal Allotey, both of Worcester; two nieces, Uvina Fencher and Vanessa Smith; two nephews, Terence Fencher and Jaavon Rodriguez; four uncles, Joe Fencher of Pelham, Georgia, Benjamin Avery of Holden, and Todd Jackson and Thomas Matier ; two aunts, Brenda Matier and Doris Quartey; a great aunt, Luxora Brown, all of Worcester; a great uncle Jay VanStory of Attleboro; a close friend, Joseph Asamoa; many cousins and friends. Her sister, Gladys Fencher predeceased her in 2006. April was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Edward Fencher, and has lived here all her life. She graduated from Burncoat Senior High School and Quinsigamond Community College. April worked as a chef/cook for Denny's Restaurant in Worcester for many years, she had previously worked in the cafeteria at UMass -Memorial Hospital and had been a manager for McDonald's. She was a member of Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ. April's funeral will be held Thursday, November 12 at 11 a.m. in Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ, 63 Welling ton Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., in the church.
