R Lorraine Mercadante

R. Lorraine "Rainy" (Derosier) Mercadante, 84, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009, in her home surrounded by loving family. Her husband of fifty-one years, Louis P. Mercadante, predeceased her in November 2003. She is survived by her sons, Kevin L. Mercadante and his wife Kate of Worcester, Mark P. Mercadante and his companion Christine Rafferty Morway of Oxford; her grandchildren, Adina Mercadante of Whitinsville, Kristopher Mercadante and his wife Jamie of Worcester; Michelle Elworthy and her husband David of Worcester, Jared Mercadante of Oxford, and Melissa Mercadante of Worcester; a great grandson Laighden James Mercadante of Whitinsville; her life-long friend, Gladys "Sis" Adams of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two brothers and two sisters, Arnold Derosier, Earl H. Derosier, Sr., Geraldine Maurice, and Doris "Dorie" McLaughlin. She was born in Marlborough, daughter of Hermes H. and Florence A. (Thornton) Derosier. She grew up in Northborough, where she lived for many years, before moving to Worcester in 1952, with her husband. Lorraine worked beside her husband for many years, as they founded Mercadante Funeral Home in 1961, and continued to serve families throughout Worcester and the surrounding communities, until she retired. She was a member Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Parish, and the former Saint Margaret Mary Parish. She enjoyed her involvement in The Mount Carmel Golden Years, the Saint Margaret Mary Women's Club, and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed traveling around the world and spending Summers at their home on Cape Cod, with friends and family. Lorraine will long be remembered as a gentle, quiet, loving lady. The funeral for Lorraine will be held Monday, November 9, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester (guests are asked to go directly to church). Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum at Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 8, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Parish, Restoration Fund, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester, MA 01605, or Saint Anne's Church Free Medical Clinic, 120 Boston Turnpike Road, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
