Anthony J. "Uncle Tony" D'Ascanio, 82, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday November 4th 2009 in St. Vincent Hospital after a brief illness. Tony's wife Mary R. (Bastardo) D'Ascanio passed away in 1975. He is survived by two brothers, Angelo R. and Ralph L. "Muzzy" D'Ascanio, Jr. and his wife Ethel both of Worcester, Catalda R. "Tal" Roy of Sterling; many nieces and nephews. A brother, Michaelangelo D'Ascanio passed away in 1998 a sister, Catherine Mulvey passed away in 1988 and a neice, Marylou Roy Habron also pre deceased him. He was born in Worcester, a son of Ralph L. D'Ascanio, Sr. and Catherine (Lentini) D'Ascanio. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and has lived here all his life. Uncle Tony co owned and operated with his best friend Michael Marino, D'Ascanio and Marino Service Center on Grafton Street more than 40 years before retiring. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church and the Eastside Post 201 American Legion. Uncle Tony loved sports, ceramics and especially cooking for his family. But his love and passion was his vegetable gardens. His gardens would annually produce the largest and best tasting vegetables. Uncle Tony's funeral will be held Saturday, November 7th 2009 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday, November 6th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Members of the Eastside Post 201, will meet at 7pm in the funeral home to conduct their ritual.
